This page supports, and does not replace, the ZOOM video on the subject. It slows down the instructions on how to get to work areas and provides additional info on creating your needed images. I chose to change back grounds and images, you may not wish to do that.

I also wished to have instructions for my students so they could
1. change there name on the participant screen, and,
2. give them some privacy by changing their background.

The youtube video is the same video as on the ZOOM site. On the youtube page there are other videos that I have not checked but you may wish to check.

Edit Your Profile Picture (Optional!)

Most of the photo editing is not required. You may simply use the material already in ZOOM. I chose to do the editing. Here is what I did.

To do/edit this stuff you will need a background image (or may use ZOOM's) and a headshot of you -- a selfie is fine. If you need some instruction on image resizing and cropping, try this info on WordPress image editing.

0. Gather the images you wish to use.: 0a. This was my original background and headshot. At that time I had no idea of the sizes of images I would need, but, it had images I knew I wished in the background -- MathNStuff.com logo and the school/semester/math logo and also a head shot..; 0b. I got my head shot (100 by 120 pixels) from a group shot someone took a few years ago. . The other images (146 x 169 pixels) were first edited using the head shot and the original background then further edited with the ZOOM software. I thought the first purple one too busy and tried to make it more simple in the one on the right.
1. Change your Profile Picture: Start on your Profile Page.

Upload an image you think you might want.
Here an 146 x 169 pixel image centered and with extra blank space around the outside is used.
Change picture, crop and position, with web page.
If you do not like it, edit your image.
Upload your revision.
Save.
Change completed.

Change Your Background (Optional, but suggested for privacy, etc.).

One must "turn on" Virtual Background before it may be changed.

Again, none of the background changing is required. You may choose to use the background visible through your camera or you may simply use the material already in ZOOM. I chose to do the editing. Here is what I did.

1. Turn on Virtual Background:

0. Go to the Profile Page.

1. Settings (in left column)

2. In Settings, click on Meetings.

3. In Settings, in Meetings, select "In Meeting (Advanced)."

4. Switch Virtual Background on (slide slider to the right).

5. Find then watch the YouTube video (rather than in ZOOM because the images are better)
on Virtual Backgrounds and follow the suggestions.
