Find the Dimensions of a Cylinder Given the Surface Area or Volume
SWBAT: Compute unknown dimensions of rectangles, circles, and rectangular prisms given area or volume with 80% accuracy.
SWBAT: Compute unknown dimensions of cylinders given surface area or volume with 60% accuracy.
SWBAT: State a method for finding unknown dimensions of cylinders given surface area or volume with 80% accuracy.
SWBAT: Solve an equation of the form ax = b with 80% accuracy.
SWBAT: Solve an equation of the form ax + b = c with 20% accuracy.

  1. Complete a solve the equation and geometry multiple choice sheet on volumes and dimensions.
     
  2. Review the formulas from last class.

  3. As a class list the following steps
    To find a missing dimension given surface area or volume:
    1st: Select the appropriate formula.
    2nd: Fill in all the known information.
    3rd: Simplify the formula.
    4th: Solve the equation for the unknown information.
    5th: Check your answer to see if it makes sense.
  4. Compute the volume of a prism, a pyramid, a cylinder, and a cone suggested by students using material on the web and in an area spreadsheet.
     
  5. Find the unknown dimension.

     
  6. Find the unknown dimension.

     
  7. Debrief through "Tell me one thing you learned today."
     
  8. Learn of homework.
