He was so pleased he tried a subtraction problem too and wonder of wonders it worked!

Red was doing fine but one day he got stuck. He couldn't figure out how to subtract $4.50 from $5. He couldn't line up the decimal points because he didn't see a decimal point anywhere around the 5.
