Congruent means exactly the same in shape and size.
Similar means exactly the same in shape and but not necessarily size.
Shapes which are congruent are therefore also similar.

    With similar figures, corresponding sides are proportional, and, because proportionality is studies from a very early grade, many may find the lengths of unknown sides mentally. If one can not mentally find the misssing value, it may be found by cross multipling.
